When it comes to making homemade soap grandma’s way, first go to your local drugstore to get the necessary ingredients.
You can buy the glycerine already in liquid form or dissolve it using the microwave at a low temperature.
Vegetable glycerine is a clear liquid made from oils such as soybean, coconut or palm oil, it is odourless and has a syrup-like consistency. It is a product widely used in cosmetics because it has a great moisturising power and does not cause irritations or allergies.
While diluting the glycerine, bring the water to the boil, then remove from the heat and add the saponaria. Cover and leave to stand for 1 hour.
It is worth knowing that saponaria is a wild plant that has been used since ancient times to make soap due to the detergent properties of its roots and its ability to create foam on contact with water. In fact, its name comes from sapo, which in Latin means soap.
After 60 minutes, strain the mixture of water and saponaria and pour it into a container. Add the used oil and stir well. When the ingredients are well integrated, add the liquid glycerine and stir again until the mixture is perfectly smooth.
Then, pour the mixture into the containers of your choice to obtain the shapes you like and put them in the fridge. Soap dishes, small metal or plastic boxes, plastic egg cups or even beach toys can be used to make original shapes for your homemade soaps!
You can also give your homemade soap any scent you like. Just add the fragrance of your choice or use aromatic oils. If you want a recommendation, the scents that go best with homemade soaps are those of citrus fruits, lavender and flowers.
If you are still looking for a simpler and quicker way to make homemade soaps, just dilute two glycerine tablets bought in any shop and add the used or unused olive oil, about 100ml.
If you like, add the scent of your choice, mix all the ingredients together until everything is uniform and leave to cool in the containers of your choice.
With this easy way, you’d have obtained a homemade soap for face and body, grandma’s style, without weird ingredients and giving a new use to the used olive oil.
An ultimate observation, very fun to do with your kids at home!
